Calon Cymru Fostering is an established foster agency, with offices in Carmarthen and Cardiff. Our dedicated team of social workers and head office staff provide the invaluable support that our foster carers need in order to provide a stable home for local vulnerable children.

Current Job Vacancies:

Recruitment Officer | Permanent | £20,000 – £22,000 pa (depending on experience) |Cardiff

Main purpose of job:

To actively recruit quality foster carers to care for children who are looked after and young people by coordinating local recruitment activity and providing administrative support to meet regional targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Day to day coordination of regional carers recruitment activity.
  • Be the first point of contact for prospective foster carers living in your region providing high levels of customer service and a positive experience of the Agency.
  • To welcome visitors to the office and provide a high-quality visitor/user experience.
  • Liaise with the Recruitment manager which will involve the monitoring of the enquiry progress from receipt of the enquiry until the initial visit is complete.
  • Accurately maintain the agency database to log enquiry details from prospective foster carers.
  • Research, organise and attend carer recruitment events for the region, this may involve evening and weekend work. Flexibility is essential for his role.
  • Co-ordinate the involvement of the local social work teams to support recruitment activities within the region.
  • In liaison with the regional social work teams, set up and supervise a group of foster carer volunteers who can assist at local recruitment events.
  • Attend regional team meetings to update the team and regularly provide accurate reports to managers
  • Share local activity plans and regional news with the PR & Communications team and actively support local marketing activities through the use of both traditional and social media.
  • Work to regional carer recruitment targets and adhere to Agency policies and procedures at all times.
  • Maintain and manage promotional material supplies.
  • Build links with relevant local community groups to raise awareness of the shortage of foster carers.

Additional duties:

All staff are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises where tasks are not specifically covered in the job description but need to be undertaken.

Supervising Social Worker | Permanent | Cardiff

Calon Cymru Fostering are looking for qualified Social Workers with the enthusiasm, independence and skill to join the team managing a caseload of up to 12 carers. You will work within a dedicated team to improve the outcome and lives of looked after children. You will work closely with the Foster Carers, Clinical Practitioners and members of the Clinical Team to ensure coordinated implementation of treatment care plans.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver supervision, support and development opportunities to a target number of Foster Carers across the region within the agency’s established framework and required standard.
  • Undertake the necessary placement management, planning and intervention to achieve and maintain an 80% occupancy rate across the Foster Carer Team.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed to the required standard and timescale, including paperless recording, IT diary and notifications.
  • Ensure that children’s care and development needs are met within placements.
  • Undertake parenting assessments, present to court where required.
  • Participate in the ‘out of office hours’ duty system providing telephone support to Foster Carers.
  • To interview and assess suitable foster carers for the service including completion of relevant reports.
  • To provide or co-ordinate mandatory training to foster carers.
  • Undertake performance and target reviews with the Director on a regular basis. Contribute to regional development plans.
  • Undertake regular self-audits of record keeping and report as necessary.
  • Provide regular updates, activity plans, placement and business development trends, to the Senior Management Team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Dip SW/CQSW/Social Work Degree/GSCC registration/PQ award and current Social Care Wales registration.
  • Ability to supervise and support a small staff team.
  • Ability to manage and support foster carers.
  • Experience of assessing and supervising foster carers is desirable.
  • Full clean driver’s licence and supply own vehicle.

Sessional Support Worker | Permanent | Carmarthen

Calon Cymru Fostering are looking for Sessional Support Workers to support the young person’s progress in the TLP Programmes and foster placement through working with them in the community, in leisure activities or at school. Specifically, to provide one to one support to young people, and provide some necessary respite for the carers. In summary the post is for a competent worker to engage in direct, focused work with children – to build positive relationships with the child, to model acceptable behaviour and help the child to trust and feel safe with adults.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Individual Work

To work directly with individual young people and children placed with Calon Cymru foster carers under direction and through regular supervision from the Senior Practitioner and Business Development Manager.

  • To meet at least weekly one to one with the young people on the programme and to support young people through the initial adjustment period
  • To provide a positive role model to young people and promote and shape appropriate behaviour using prompting, practice and reinforcement
  • To work with the TLP team to target identified problem areas in behavioural and social functioning
  • To provide one to one support to young people on the programme within the community in a recreational context to promote and practice pro-social behaviour and problem solving skills
  • To communicate a positive regard for the young person in order to build and sustain a sound relationship with them
  • To identify the young person’s strengths and individual interests
  • To enable and support the young people to participate in recreational and leisure activities
  • To promote safety and assess risks associated with the young person’s behaviours and activities in the community under the direction of the Senior Practitioner/Business Development Manager
  • To encourage the young person’s engagement with their care plan and goals

Team Member Responsibilities

  • To support the work of other members of the TLP service
  • To undertake practical tasks relating to the support of the placements
  • To work flexible hours including non-office hours in order to meet the needs of supporting young people socially outside of school hours, including occasional call out to provide support to the team management of crises
  • To observe and provide information to the clinical team about the social functioning and skill development of the young people in community settings
  • To attend initial and therapeutic review meetings as required
  • To promote people’s equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities
  • To work with members of the TLP service to promote development of service and links to other agencies

Individual Responsibilities:

  • To ensure adherence to good practice, Calon Cymru Fostering Policies and Procedures and statutory regulations
  • To continue to develop own knowledge and practice
  • To participate in Calon Cymru Fostering training for staff package
  • To undertake work on a planned basis or as a crisis response
  • To work in a manner consistent with Calon Cymru Policies and Procedures, including code of conduct
  • To maintain departmental records, and use IT and electronic filing systems used by Calon Cymru as appropriate
  • To undertake such further training as may be required
  • To receive and be open to supervision as a means of developing good practice and maintaining high standards in all   areas of work

We are often looking for independent assessors to work with our foster carers during the assessment process. You will need to be a qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Care Wales – experience of completing Form Fs to a high standard. Generous rates offered. Requirements for the role:
