Fostering in Blaenau Gwent

Could you transform the life of a young person in Blaenau Gwent?

Are you thinking of fostering a child or a young person in Blaenau Gwent?

Our team in Wales are always on the lookout for new foster carers across both the cities and rural landscapes of Wales – with Blaenau Gwent one of the top locations where foster families are always needed. If you have the space in both your home and your heart for foster children and teenagers in need, then we need you!

Situated in the Southeast of Wales, with four main towns in the county and the surrounding areas of Caerphilly, Powys, Monmouthshire, and Torfaen on its doorstep, Blaenau Gwent boasts a diverse and rich landscape of woodland, moorland, and safe community village spaces and dwellings. Considered one of the most affordable places to live in the UK, Blaenau Gwent combines its cheap property prices with a low cost of living and is also recognise as one of the safest places to call home.

All of these things combine to make Blaenau Gwent a great place to raise a family – with the Calon Cymru Fostering team looking for new foster carers and families to open their homes to young people in need.

Becoming a foster carer in Blaenau Gwent enables you to open your home to children and teenagers from all walks of life, who may arrive on your doorstep with their own challenges, complexities, and difficulties. As a foster carer, your job is to give them a safe and supportive space in which to turn those challenges around and focus on their future dreams and opportunities – with the diverse area of rural Wales an ideal location from which to rebuild their lives.

As of March 2021, there were approximately 5,070 children living in foster care, with 3,800 foster families in Wales. While this demonstrates the warm and open spirit of the Welsh population, it is simply not enough – with Calon Cymru Fostering always on the lookout for suitable homes and open-hearted families who can support and care for children who need them. Children out there, from across Wales and beyond, need people like you to open your home and tell them that they belong.

If this sounds like something that you would be keen to learn more about, then we’d love to hear from you and get you started on the journey of a lifetime.

This is Yvonne and Brian’s story.

“We’ve been part of the Calon Cymru fostering system for more than 18 years now, but every child who comes to us brings their own story, their own fears, and their own individual needs.
That’s why we create traditions, such as ‘The Family Tree’, which brings us together with our foster children every Christmas and lets us revel in memories of past Christmases with children who have been and gone. The tradition started with our first ever foster placement, three sisters, and is now something that every child living with us over Christmas gets to become a part of.”
