Could you transform the life of a young person in the Vale of Glamorgan?

The Calon Cymru Fostering team are always on the lookout for new foster carers and families, who can open their homes to children and teenagers from all walks of life and offer both the support and love that every young person deserves.

Often referred to locally as ‘The Vale’ the Vale of Glamorgan is located in the Southeast of Wales with both inland and coastal borders giving it a visitor-friendly environment which combines attractions with local culture and history. Once a large agricultural and chemically-reliant economy, the mix of rolling countryside and coastal communities gives the Vale of Glamorgan a distinctly laid back yet modern feel which – thanks to its place on the map as a tourist and holiday destination – boasts excellent transport links and roads.

For those raising children or considering a move to becoming a foster carer, the Vale of Glamorgan is also well placed in terms of education and opportunity for young people – blending the laid back and relaxed way of life with 57 schools across the Vale.

This is Andy and Michelle’s story.

Andy and Michelle have been fostering with Calon Cymru Fostering for upwards of 20 years, having first decided to join our family after speaking to their own family members who were fostering at the time. The challenges were something apparent yet appealing from day one, with Michelle saying that the achievements children make is the most rewarding thing about the process.

From the small steps to the biggest goals, every achievement is notable and important – with the couple revelling in those times where previous foster children come back to visit and tell the couple about their new lives.

“We’re even known as ‘Nan’ and ‘Pops’ to the children of one of our previous foster children”.
