Abi, a trained paediatric nurse from Cardiff took on the challenge last weekend of running the Cardiff half marathon. Abi was due to run the race back in 2020 but it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. All those extra months of training paid off and she completed the race in an incredible time of 1 hour 43 minutes.
Now working as a health visitor, Abi sees first-hand the struggles families face when dealing with seriously ill children. She decided to raise money for a charity very close to her heart, Dreams and Wishes. This charity works with families of children who are seriously ill. It provides support throughout the child’s illness as well as helping to build happy memories by granting lifelong wishes.
Abi tells us of “One little girl wanted to meet the Disney characters, Dreams and Wishes were able to grant her a trip of a lifetime to Paris where she could make incredible memories to cherish with her family.”
Calon Cymru are proud to sponsor Abi running for this incredible charity. As an agency that specialises in supporting and caring for young people, we want children to have the best lives they can possibly have. Battling a life-threatening illness is heart-breaking for both a child and their support network and can often mean countless hospital stays, painful treatments and a loss of a ‘childhood’.
“I am very grateful for the sponsor from Calon Cymru Fostering, the agency is very inspirational to me, and I am so appreciative for your generosity”. Abi commented.
We wish Abi well in any future races she intends to complete and applaud the Dreams and Wishes charity for their work carried out in helping children’s dreams come true.
