Supervising Social Worker

My name is Tahmina Khan, and I’ve been with the agency as a Supervising Social Worker for over a year now! I never would have expected to be doing my job in this type of situation – the lockdown has been a new experience for many of us!

What also coincided with this lockdown was the Holy month of Ramadan. This is a special month for Muslims, where we fast during the day and pray at night – this means no food or drink from dawn until sunset.

In the summer months, this means 18+ hour fasts and managing the fasting alongside working a full day.  I am so grateful to my managers for supporting me during the Ramadan by allowing me to work Flexi hours to suit my needs.

After 30 days of fasting, Ramadan ends with the celebration of Eid. This is usually a huge affair with so much food, where your door is open to all your local friends and family who visit each other and exchange Eid Greetings!!  But this year has been different!  As a result of the COVID-19 and with social distancing in place, it has been hard not to be able to see friends and family. But thanks to Zoom and social media, I have been able to catch up with my friends and family virtually and hope to see them soon when all this is over. I have made big plans to cook for everyone to make up for lost time!

This has been a new way of working and we are all finding our feet. Thank you to all my colleagues and to the carers for finding such new and innovative ways of working together to ensure seamless care for all the children.
