Supervising Social Worker

Hi, I’m Amanda and I’m a Supervising Social Worker based in the Cardiff office where I have worked for the past 15 years.

Since lockdown, these weeks have been a very different way of working, mainly at home and attempting to juggle the dreaded homeschooling a 10-year-old who is already far better at maths than I am.

We live on a farm so outside of work I am also kept nice and busy.  We have free-range chickens which my youngest Son’s idea as he wanted to save up to buy a sheep.  We started with 4 chickens and the girls in the office used to buy the eggs.  It didn’t take him long to work out that 4 chickens were never going to be enough.

Three or maybe four years on we now have around 1,400 free range hens 100 ducks 100 sheep and did I mention the alpacas ????

Just before lockdown our giant Anatolian Shepherd puppy Frankie also joined the family.  He is supposed to be out protecting our chickens from the foxes however in this weather he is happiest indoors guarding the sofa.

During the bank holiday weekend a Farming group I belong to were raising money for a Farming Mental Health charity, the challenge was to undertake some of your farm chores in a dress.  My boys were as you can imagine not impressed at all but it was however for a great cause.

Ive been so proud of my Foster Carers and all the children I work with for making the most of their time in lockdown, some learning to bake, gardening and valuing the time they get to spend outdoors.

Several of my Foster Carers have also had new placements within this time and you deserve a huge thank you ensuring as always that the children we look after needs are at the fore front.

I like most have had to utilise technology and the families I work with are getting used to video calls, not ideal but at least I get to see everyone’s faces and lockdown hairstyles ????

I really cant wait until I can knock on your door and be invited in for a cuppa and a catch up.  Until then keep safe and thank you once again for all you are doing.
