Lysa & Andrew - Foster Carers

Making a Difference with Fostering

By Liam Hughes 28th November 2018 Help & Advice

Lysa worked for an estate agency before deciding to become a Foster Carer full time, and has now been fostering with her partner Andrew for two and a half years.

Having no children of her own, Lysa’s main motivation was wanting to make a difference in a child or young person’s life. Lysa felt she had the energy, drive and compassion to give to the role and says she “is so glad I made the call to Calon Cymru Fostering.”

She chose to foster with Calon Cymru Fostering, because she felt “it was the agency that provided me with the most confidence, particularly around support, and it has a locally based office to me.

Having not experienced life with children in the house previously, the noise and routine was something she relished getting used to. Adapting to life with a child is challenging, but she felt that giving them structure and putting them first is the key to success saying “ultimately if you can make the child happy then you’re happy too.

Lysa describes her fostering journey so far as “amazing”. In her words: “I’ve learned a lot, I receive outstanding support and could not do my job without the support of my supervising social worker and other colleagues within Calon Cymru Fostering”.
