Foster Carer Graham Williams ran the London Marathon to raise money for the National Autistic Society, finishing with a fantastic time of 4 hours and 12 minutes. With the support of Calon Cymru Fostering, Graham raised an incredible £2000 for the charity.
The National Autistic Society is a charity dedicated to supporting children and adults on the Autistic spectrum. Autism is a lifelong disability that affects how people communicate and interact with the world, with a wide spectrum ranging from severe to minimal life interference. There are approximately 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK and as autism is an invisible disability you may very well know someone on the spectrum without being aware that they are.
Along with other Marathons that Graham has on his to do list for this year, he is also a Foster Carer with Calon Cymru Fostering. Graham welcomes children into his home that have been through trauma and neglect, helping them to get the best start in life. By providing these young people with a loving stable home they can continue to grow as individuals and receive the love and support all children deserve when growing up.
Being a Foster Carer may not be easy, as children who have come from neglectful and traumatic homes face many personal challenges. Thankfully Foster Carers such as Graham are willing to receive all the training and support that they need to be equipped with managing young people who face different personal challenges. You do not need to have had any previous training, a degree or even be a marathon runner, just the passion and willingness to learn from the support and training that Calon Cymru Fostering provide.
We are very proud of the efforts of our Foster Carers and their dedication to supporting others, not only in what they do for the children at Calon Cymru but for their own personal activities as well.
