A legacy for all at Calon Cymru

This week Calon Cymru Fostering said a fond farewell to Operations Manager, Sharon Thomas. Sharon joined Calon Cymru Fostering (previously Pathway Care) in 1999 as a Supervising Social Worker, and we are grateful that she stayed with us for so long!

Throughout her time at the agency, Sharon has overseen the placement of hundreds of children who have been supported by our wonderful team of Calon Cymru foster carers. She has always taken a keen interest in their lives and has kept in contact with many of these children (some now adults!), ensuring that she has been a constant in their lives.

Over the past 24 years, Sharon has supervised many foster carers, and the commitment she has shown to them has been outstanding.  Garry and Yvonne, who are long-standing Calon Cymru foster carers commended Sharon on her ability to remain calm during the most stressful times.

“Sharon was there for us throughout some extremely tough times over 20 years ago. She has made even the most challenging moments easier by being available, reliable and level-headed.”

Sheila, another Calon Cymru foster carer described Sharon as kind, caring and patient. She remarked:

“Nothing was ever a problem for Sharon, she has always shown total dedication to foster carers and the children in their care. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that Sharon will be terribly missed.”

As Operations Manager, Sharon has managed many staff over her tenure at the agency. She has always been the first to offer a listening ear, or honest advice when it’s needed. She is incredibly well respected by all staff and truly is part of the DNA of Calon Cymru Fostering.

To mark the end of Sharon’s wonderful career, Calon Cymru held a Coffee Morning for our foster carers followed by a staff buffet on Monday. Sharon was spoilt with wonderful gifts, and it was fantastic to see so many foster carers, along with past and present staff join in the celebrations. Also in attendance were several young people whom Sharon has worked with over the years. It was clear to see the mark Sharon has left on so many people throughout her career.

Our Director, Sharon Cavaliere made a short speech on behalf of everyone at the agency. She said:

“Having worked with Sharon Thomas for over 24 years, I can say she is a true professional, and is extremely well respected by staff and foster carers alike. Her loyalty, motivation, sincerity, honesty, and integrity has always been clear to see. She has created a legacy for all Calon Cymru staff and I have felt privileged to work alongside her.”

On speaking about her loyalty to Calon Cymru, Sharon Thomas remarked how the agency has always been one big family. Although we have grown over the past 24 years, our ethos remains the same. We have always been one big team, working towards the same goal of making a difference.
