At Calon Cymru Fostering, we are constantly inspired by the dedication and heart shown by our foster carers, not just in the amazing support they give to children and young people, but in the ways they give back to their communities. We’re incredibly proud to shine a spotlight on Graham Williams, who is taking on an extraordinary personal challenge for a cause close to his heart.
Graham will be taking on the legendary Alcatraz Swim, an open water challenge that covers nearly two miles from Alcatraz Island to Crissy Field in San Francisco Bay. This swim is as iconic as it is demanding, with strong currents, chilly waters, all under the watch of the Golden Gate Bridge.
But for Graham, it’s not just about the physical challenge, it’s about making a difference. He’s swimming in support of Velindre Cancer Centre, a charity that provides life-saving treatment, care, and support to people living with cancer across Wales.
“This swim is a way I can challenge myself and raise much-needed funds for a place that gives so much to so many. I’m hugely grateful to Calon Cymru for backing me in this, your support means the world.” Graham shares.
Graham will be joining a team of 25 fellow swimmers, including Velindre Charity Ambassador Dave Tonge and Charity Patron Shane Williams. Together, they’ll be taking on this adventurous swim to raise vital funds and awareness. Each swimmer has set themselves the ambitious target of raising as much as possible to support Velindre’s incredible work.
We at Calon Cymru couldn’t be prouder to support Graham on this journey. His commitment, not only to the young people he cares for, but to those in need across our wider community, is truly inspirational.
Sharon Cavaliere, Regional Director of Calon Cymru Fostering, shared her pride in Graham’s efforts:
“Graham is an exceptional foster carer, dedicated, kind, and always willing to go the extra mile for others. Taking on the Alcatraz Swim is a huge personal challenge, and it shows the strength of his character. We’re honoured to support him in this and wish him all the success in the world.”
Graham’s bravery in the water mirrors the courage of those fighting cancer every day, and every pound raised will help Velindre continue its vital mission.
We’re incredibly proud of Graham for taking on this challenge and raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre 💙
