Fostering in Ceredigion

Foster care in Ceredigion

Are you thinking of fostering a child or a young person in Ceredigion?

Often referred to as Wales’s best kept secret, there are a great many reasons why Ceredigion is a coveted place to live – from its statement as the heart of Welsh culture, to the blend of mountain scenery, coastal excellence, and vibrant villages and towns which are perfect for those seeking a laid back way of life.

Perfect for families with children of all ages, Ceredigion is particularly renowned for the opportunity available and the safety of life across its landscape – with the quality of life, low house prices, and mixture of different lifestyles making it suitable for raising and inspiring children. And what better way to maximise the difference you can make in the lives of young people, than by becoming a foster carer and offering your love and support to a child who lacks the presence of nurturing and caring adults.

There are 39 primary schools and 7 secondary schools located in Ceredigion, with the rich traditional Welsh culture of the county giving the education system across Ceredigion a direct focus on the local community, and the importance of Wales’s own history. Pair this classroom learning with the immersive landscape and historical experiences dotted across the county, and you end up with somewhere inspirational which invites and encourages children to come out of their own shell and discover their own interests in a safe and welcoming environment.

When you become a foster carer in Ceredigion, our team at Calon Cymru Fostering will first work with you to make sure that you feel comfortable and well prepared for the challenges and reality of foster care. Through our comprehensive and extensive training program, we arm foster carers with the tools they need to support foster children as they become integrated in their new surroundings, with the different types of fostering allowing us to match children in foster care with the best home for them.

Every year, thousands more children enter the foster care system, requiring short term, long term, respite, and sometimes therapeutically-led care. Our job is to help, support, inspire, and protect those young people – and we need the help of people like you in order to do it.

This is Yvonne and Brian’s story.

“We’ve been part of the Calon Cymru fostering system for more than 18 years now, but every child who comes to us brings their own story, their own fears, and their own individual needs.

That’s why we create traditions, such as ‘The Family Tree’, which brings us together with our foster children every Christmas and lets us revel in memories of past Christmases with children who have been and gone. The tradition started with our first ever foster placement, three sisters, and is now something that every child living with us over Christmas gets to become a part of.”
