Calon Cymru Sponsors Local Food Banks

Sponsors Food Banks

Calon Cymru have sponsored two food banks this year. Our sponsorship to the Dulais Food bank in Cardiff and the Cardigan Food Bank will help cover the cost of feeding many families over the Christmas period and into the New Year.

Calon Cymru foster carers Carla and Stephen recently visited the Dulais foodbank to witness the wonderful efforts put in by the volunteers. St Mary of the Angels RC Church Deacon, Maurice Scanlon said:

There are approximately 50-60 volunteers at this food bank and at the moment who contribute to different roles on a rota basis. This food bank started out to help a few families who were struggling in the pandemic, it has since grown and is now helping up to 80 families on a weekly basis.

Staff from the Carmarthen office visited the Cardigan foodbank. The food bank started running in 2009 with the aim to help local families but has increased in demand year on year especially this year when they have had a huge increase of referrals coming forward. This facility has helped just short of 2000 people this year including 722 children. People who use the food bank have all been referred from associations such as citizens advice bureau, housing associations and health visitors.

Here at Calon Cymru Fostering, we are dedicated to supporting young people in care across South and South West Wales have are proud to be working with the foodbanks to help improve the outlook of young people and their families in the community. We acknowledge the weight of our communities needing them isn’t ideal, supporting them is vital.

If you wish to support local young people and their families then we urge you to donate to your local food bank, with items such a non-perishable foods, health and hygiene items, household supplies and even the likes of nappies and baby formula. You can also offer financial donations to your local food banks.

If you feel like you could offer something more and have a spare room in your home and lots of room in your heart, then get in touch with us and enquire about becoming a foster carer.
