More Foster Carers Needed In Wales

Stock 14
Every year hundreds of new foster families are needed to support the increasing number of children in Wales that come into care.

Fostering is more widespread than you may think. As of March 31st 2022, there were 4,915 children and young people living with approximately 3,800 foster families across Wales*.

There are several reasons why children and young people come into care, but whatever the reason for being separated from their birth families, all of them require support and a stable home with foster carers.

Calon Cymru Fostering is proud to support their foster carers to provide high levels of care and positive outcomes to some of the most vulnerable children and young people across South and West Wales.

Fostering is a rewarding and fulfilling career, but it does not come without its challenges. Calon Cymru foster carers have access to 24 hour support, 365 days a year. They can also expect a visit from their locally based Supervising Social Worker every two weeks. Furthermore, our foster carers attend regularly held local support groups, which gives them a great opportunity to meet up with other foster carers living in their community. Recently, our foster carers have also been given extra support through the cost-of-living crisis, and exclusive access to a rewards platform with thousands of high street discounts.

Calon Cymru also has an expert placement team who work tirelessly to find the right match for each child and young person in our care. Successful and stable placements improve life chances for children looked-after. This is why we do what we do and are so passionate about it! Here’s what our Placements Manager, Gemma says about her role:

It is an honour to work with such an amazing team and to hear about each success for our children and carers. It means so much to see the amount of work people put in to accommodate a child into their lives.
